Nowhere is the motto of the State of Michigan more appropriate than in the Munising area of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The town of Munising is located on the jewel that is Lake Superior, its deep harbor protected by historic Grand Island. Grand Island is the largest island on Lake Superior’s south shore: eight miles north to south and three miles wide, thirty five miles of shoreline, dense woodlands with a centrally located Echo Lake and miles of hiking and biking trails, it is maintained as a wilderness area by the National Park Service.

The Munising area is regarded as the gateway to the Pictured Rocks National Seashore but offers a wide array of four season’s recreation; a paradise for the lover’s of the out-of doors. In the spring the forest floor is carpeted with wild flowers and the symphony of Ruffed Grouse drumming and Woodcock peeping in their evening flights. The Rainbow Trout make their spawning way up numerous streams and the Salmon, Lake Trout and Brown Trout prowl the inshore waters. The summer brings fly fishing in Robert Traver’s “Trout Madness” streams. Golf courses are green, well manicured and affordable. Large Lake Trout feed in the shoals of Lake Superior and kayakers cruise its cool deep waters. Inland Lakes welcome the campers and fisherman. Fall comes in with a profusion of fantastic colors. Hunters and their dogs walk the woods and stream edges where Brook Tout are seen in their spawning colors. Long Vees of Geese coming south from the Artic herald the coming of winter. Late fall and White Tail deer bound through the woods. Winter comes, the grey skeletons of the trees are outlined with white snowy fluff and the sound of the snowmobiles is heard in the land. The tracks of the cross country skiers and snow-shoes crisscross the white carpeted woods. Ice shanties dot Munising Bay and people find their way to the local coffee house to enjoy the local artisans.
