Alger County History Where did the name of Alger County originate?

Russell A. Alger in Munising MichiganAs you may or may not know, a bronze momument of Russell A. Alger resides on a stone pedestal on the property of William G. Mather High School located on the corner of Elm Avenue and Chocolay Street in Munising Michigan. This local momument was erected on June 1909 and was paid for by the heirs of Russell A. Alger and the Board of Education of Munising Township Schools.

Russell Alger was a Born on February 27th, 1836 and died on January 24th, 1907. Some of his occupational achievements were Brevet Major General, U.S.V., Governor for the State of Michigan, Secretary of War, U.S. Senator. This is where the name Alger County arrived from.
